I was invited to keynote the second day of ROSCon 2014 and speak about using ROS in space systems through our work on NASA’s Robonaut 2.

The talk covered Robonaut 2’s mobility upgrade and the challenges that come with building robotics software for space: radiation tolerance, communication lag, restricted bandwidth, dropouts, and safety requirements. I also discussed how we used ROS and OROCOS to support Robonaut’s safety and communication systems.

I’m still proud to have been part of the team that helped put ROS in space.
